These are the references from my article on Islamic garb in the
Miscellany; an earlier version was in the CA Islamic pamphlet. I have
added some notes.
---
Arab Painting, Richard Ettinghausen, Macmillan, London 1977.
This is useful as a primary source, since it has period pictures
showing clothing.
"An Introduction to Arms and Warfare in classical Islam," by David
Nicolle, in Islamic Arms and Armor.
An expensive book, but a very informative article.
Islam Stoffe aus Agyptischen Grabern by Ernst Kuhnel, 1927: Berlin
Verlag Ernst Wasmuth.
Fabrics from graves; the text is in german.
Nauigations in Turkie, Nicholas de Nicolet .
A sixteenth century (I think) traveller's account, withh pictures of
local garb.
Cut My Cote, Dorothy K. Burnham, Textile Department, Royal Ontario
Museum, Toronto.
Detailed information on some garments in the ROM's collection,
including one Islamic shirt/robe--I think 11th or 12th c.
Early Islamic Textiles, Clive Rogers Editor, Rogers & Podmore,
Brighton 1983.
Islamiske vaben i dansk privateje (Islamic Arms and Armour from
private Danish collections), Udstilling p
Davids Samling, K?benhaven
1982.
Le Costume: Coupes et Formes, de L'Antiquite aux Teomps Modernes,
Max Tilke, Editions Albert Morance, Paris 1967. This is a wonderful
book, full of detailed photographs of real garments. Unfortunately,
most of them are out of period.
The Modern Egyptians by Edward Lane, 1860 (facsimilie from Dover).
A Glossary of the Construction, Decoration and Use of Arms and Armor,
by George C. Stone.
General armor information
Mamluk Costume, by Mayer
A scholarly book, not a costume picture book. Almost no pictures,
lots of stuff on what garments were called, what was worn when in the
year by whom.

You might also want to look at the Ain I Akbari, if you are
interested in Mughal garb and weapons.
