Florilegium "Tiles of Many Media" Contest
The purpose of this display is to show in a uniform way the great number
of different media/artforms that are done in the SCA, as well as to encourage
folks to try media which they have not worked in before.
Everyone is encouraged to create one or more tiles using any media and style
used in the SCA time period, even if these techniques would not have been
used to make a tile during this time.
During the display these tiles will be arranged in a grid pattern on the
ground. As each tile is entered in the display, the name of the artist and
a description of the media will be written down. A grid map will be produced
describing each item and its location on the grid. This map will be made
available so folks can identify each tile in any photographs they take when
they get home.
This display is open to folks not able to attend the Wars as well as those
that are present.
There will be two displays
1) At this June's Lilies War
2) At this August's Pennsic War.
The rules are:
1) Tiles to be 8 inches by 8 inches and 1 to 1 1/2 inches thick. Tiles of
thin material can be backed with a thicker material to make them sturdier
and to meet these thickness requirements.
2) Any individual can enter as many tiles as they wish, but only one tile
per
type of media.
3) The media type has to have been used in the SCA period, even if it wasn't
used to make tiles. Etched copper is okay. Plastic straws and paper are not.
4) The design on the tile is up to the artist.
The following list gives some ideas of the tiles that might be created and
some useful referances are given below this list. Many more tile materials
are probably be possible and I will add to this list as ideas are sent to
