I do apologize for seeking council again...I : truly thought I would be able to bipass intrusion on the Rialto by : buying Surnames of Scotland by George Black. Unfortunately...i just : can't afford $120:-(. Who in the world is trying to scalp you for that price??? I got my new, hardcover copy of Black for just $50. The book was reprinted in 1993 (ISBN 0-87104-172-3) and you should be able to order it for something similar to that price from any competent bookstore. Whoever is trying to sell a copy for $120 either hasn't heard about the reprinting or (charitably) may have a first edition or something else of antiquarian value. Mind you, it still is a hefty investement -- best made if you're going to be using it to help other people with research. I can't see buying a copy for a one-shot project. Date: Sun, 02 Jun 1996 06:39:05 +0000 Recently there have been requests about where to find copies of Black's _Surnames of Scotland_, especially where to get it without paying the $120 some bookseller wanted to extort... Further to my earlier post on this, if it proves that the book is truly out of print in the USA, it is still in print in the UK, and here are the details of the UK edition, and of a Scottish bookstore, James Thin Ltd., who I'm sure will be more than happy to sell you a copy (aren't credit cards wonderful?)
