It is basically a newsletter used to let people know about the Ren Faire circuit-- does have some articles in it, but not as many as, say TI. First issue had an article written by a Californian (if I remember right) who has been doing both Ren Faire and SCA for a long time. The article was basically "The people in the SCA really are OK" -- did give a nice explanation of how the system works-- Crowns, awards, etc. Those issues were unsolicited and sent to our _business_ name-- definitely had to have come from Pennsic merchants list (unless they went through small business legal listings, which I doubt). They may be trying to upgrade. I don't know, since the last several issues have gone directly into the recycling bin (after the staples were removed of course). As it was, it was a cross between TI and a kingdom newsletter for the Ren Faire circuit. We, too, got one of those cards, and promptly threw it away. To this end, I have produced a journal which some of you might have seen-- Chronique, the Journal of Chivalry. In this journal, we attempt to encourage chivalric discussions by posing questions to be argued in the FORUM section; presenting essays by heartfeld tourneyers and SCA folk; articles both original and reprinted from mundane scholarship (with permission, of course). We want to encourage both chivalric attitudes and a more authentic presentation. Recently I have begun to post the chivalric questions to the electronic networks in order to widen the range of responses and to spread the ideas that have been germinating in Chronique and amongst isolated groups. The cross- culture is very exciting, and promises rich rewards that I want to share with an ever-expanding circle of readers. Recent issues have dealt with: The pas d'Armes, Knightly Orders and Tournament Societies, Points of Honor, Courtly Love, Arms and Armour, The Meaning of the Tournament of Chivalry, and Knighthing Ceremonies. The upcoming issue is on Squires, due for release March 18. If you would like to be placed on the electronic mailing list to receive updates and questions, kindly return your email address. I will send you an introduction and a copy of the current questions that we are receiving replies on. If at that point you want to return your SCA name, mundane name and address, and telephone, you may either subscribe to the journal or receive a free copy comped for contributions that we use. If you only want to receive questions and news, that is fine too. Yours in Service, Brian R. Price AKA SCA Sir Brion Thornbird ap Rhys, Earl, OL Editor, Chronique From: folo@prairienet.org (F.L.
